Elizabeth Joyce Evans, 87, of Basehor, KS passed away Dec. 29, 2018 at The Piper Assisted Living. Funeral services will be 11:00am, Tues, Jan. 1, 2019 at Chapel Hill – Butler, 701 N. 94th St., KCK, with a visitation from 10:00-11:00am preceding the service. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Basehor, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Basehor, KS.
Joyce was born April 29, 1931 in Berlin, MO to Rev. William James and Audra Gladys (Power) Heriford. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1949 and married the love of her life, J.R. Evans on June 25, 1949. Joyce was the head cook for the KCK School District from 1957-68; then worked as a housewife; and retired from Commercial State Bank after working there from 1982-93. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Basehor, and formerly a member of West Haven Baptist Church of Tonganoxie, KS. Joyce was very active in her church, she taught Bible School, Sunday school, and served as the Principal of the Vacation Bible Schools. She was also President of the Women’s Missions group (WMU) for many years. Joyce was an excellent cook and baker and was known for her hospitality.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, J.R. Evans; and her siblings, Martha Kay Marlow, Mary Catherine Farris, J.R. Heriford, William Henry Heriford, Isaac Edward Heriford; and her son-in-law, William H. Scott.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Audra Raylene Dodd (James Lee Dodd) of Basehor, and Joyce Carlene Scott of Basehor; her grandchildren, Sean Ian Scott of Basehor, Stephanie Raylene Oehlert (Chad William Oehlert) of Basehor, Justin Roy Dodd of Basehor, and Erin Elizabeth Scott of Gilbert, AZ; her seven great-grandchildren, Patrick Ian Scott, Meghan Louise Scott, Eden Jade Scott, Ethan Tyler Oehlert, Emily Taylor Oehlert, Evan Tanner Oehlert, and Daniela Soledad Salazar; also survived by her youngest sister, Ethel Janice Hill; as well as other relatives and friends.
