

Elberta R. Tevis, 94, passed away February 13, 2013 at Homestead Assisted Living in Topeka, Kansas. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 21st at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 preceding the service. Interment will follow the service in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606-2800.
Elberta was born October 28, 1918 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Pratt and Beulah Henderson. She grew up in the Oklahoma area and graduated from Catoosa High School in 1936. Elberta attended Tulsa Business College and worked as a secretary for Phillips Petroleum until her retirement in 1958. She married the love of her life, Ralph Tevis on August 31, 1948. Elberta enjoyed sewing, gardening and taking care of her home, though she never lost her business skills, she typed all her correspondence and notes for many years. She was a longtime member of Grandview Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas.
Elberta was preceded in death by her parents Pratt and Beulah Henderson, both in 1989, her husband Ralph Tevis in 2004 and her sister, June Ella Lowery in 2008 as well as three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law and a nephew.
She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Lawson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, two brothers-in-law, Robert and Richard, both of Kansas City, Kansas and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
