Edward L. Todd aka Fast Eddie, 72, Kansas City, Kansas passed away October 25, 2017 at his home. A graveside service will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas 66112. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of choice.
Eddie was born On March 7, 1945 in Tracy, Missouri to James and Velma Todd. He attended Tracy Elementary Grade School before moving to Kansas City, Kansas in 1952 at age seven. He then attended Eugen Ware Elementary and West Jr. High School where he was co-captain on the basketball team, which took city championship his 8th and 9th grade years. This was the only team in history of the school that took the championship. He then graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1963.
In the summer months Eddie enjoyed playing 3&2 baseball. The teams he played on were league champs and Ed was an all-star 3rd baseman. While playing baseball he decided to pitch and his third game of pitching was a no-hitter.
While attending Wyandotte High School, he played basketball for the legendary high school coach, Walt Shublom, who coached many great college and professional players.
Eddie attended KCK Community College, Donnelly College and Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. He then went on to work for IBM and retired after 30 years. He spent many years in management and worked for six different divisions for IBM. He also worked for American Mailers as a plant manager, Mark One Electric as a warehouse manager, and Winbury Group/Colliers International as a building engineer. He was forced to retire at age 68 after injuring a knee. He enjoyed the challenge of working very much.
Most recently he spent countless hours at Todd Settlement Cemetery near Weston, Missouri. He restored the cemetery by cutting the grass and bushes, cleaning headstones, placing flowers and flags to better the appearance of the area.
Ed had a tremendous zest for life and enjoyed traveling, socializing and keeping busy.
Ed was preceded in passing by his parents; brothers, Jay C. Todd, John D. Todd and Donald R. Todd.
He is survived by his three daughters, Heather McCallick of Lubbock, Texas, Linda (Rick) Bull of Topeka, Kansas and Eydie Todd of Charlotte, North Carolina; sister, Lois Todd-Porter; five grandchildren, Ben Anderson, Ian Anderson, Katilyn McCallick, Alexi McCallick and Eleanor deGraffenreid.
