Dwight attended Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, KS before entering the U.S. Marine Corps in September, 1957. He was honorably discharged on January 8, 1961. In November of 1961 he began his career at General Motors. He quickly rose through the ranks of UAW Local 31 to become Shop Chairman for several years. The International Union, UAW, in Detroit appointed him to a position in Detroit as an International Representative. Dwight loved the UAW and helping people to enrich their lives as General Motors employees. He was a true Union soldier! After spending several years working in Detroit, the UAW transferred him to Shreveport, LA, where he worked until his retirement from General Motors and the UAW. Shreveport has been his home for the last 26 years.
Dwight has always stayed active with his family and friends during hunting trips, fishing expeditions, bowling, golfing, playing pool and playing cards (mostly POKER!). He loved gardening, working in his yard, and cruising the neighborhood on his golf cart with his furry children, Tillie and Molly. He loved to help them hunt for squirrels. Other spare time was spent at EVERY sporting goods store, golf store and pawn shop. In recent years some of his fondest moments have been spent with his grandchildren and children. He was especially fond of his hunting trips to Arkansas with his sons, and was very impatiently awaiting opening day of the deer-hunting season!
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight R. Farr, Sr. and Wanetta Liveley Farr.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Becky Farr, his children: Dwight R. Farr, III; Steven D. Farr (Marie); Debora W. Razzouq (Peter); Eric P. Farr; Derrick P. Farr (Melissa); twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one more on the way; several nieces and nephews; he will be greatly missed by HIS constant companion, his dachshund Tillie.
