Dorothy Louise Dowdle

Dorothy L. Dowdle, 91, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away January 9, 2017 at Providence Medical Center. A celebration of her life will be held at noon, Tuesday, January 17th at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Friends may call from 11:00-noon at the funeral home. Interment will follow the services in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

Dorothy was born April 8, 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri to August and Elsie Sievering. She left school to help her sisters with their education, but earned her GED in 1984. Dorothy married Baxter Thurman Dowdle in August, 1956 and they enjoyed many years together before his passing. She worked for Manor Bakery as a secretary before she left to raise her three boys. Dorothy enjoyed bowling, needlepoint and playing the piano. She enjoyed sewing and made her own clothes for many years and also liked quilting. Dorothy loved the Royals and KU and always watched Dale Earnhardt, Jr. when he was racing. She was a caring and determined woman and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Dorothy has been a cancer survivor since 1985.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Baxter Dowdle; her sister, Alma Guffey; and four brothers-in-law, Harold, Charlie, Bobby, and Johnny.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Greg Dowdle (Jerry) of Lawrence, KS, Jeffrey Dowdle (Linda) of the USA, and Lester Dowdle of KCK; her siblings, Helen Evans, August Sievering (Joy), Eleanor Gonser, Selma Williams (Bud), and Betty Evenson (Bernie); her grandchildren, Brendan Dowdle (Tiffany), Ariel Miner (Matt), Joshua Dowdle, Jan Rousch, Craig Rousch, and Emily Randolph; two great-grandchildren, Jude Dowdle and Benjamin Miner; and many other relatives and friends.
