Don, as he was known to most, died on January 5, 2023 in his home of almost 60 years. He passed peacefully while sleeping.
He was married to Karen Jane Hardy on August 6, 1955. Their love remained strong for over 66 years. Karen, our loving mom, passed away one year ago on December 26, 2021.
Don had one brother, Robert David Jr. , who has since passed and is survived by his wife Gwen Hardy of Huntsville Texas.
Don and Karen had 6 children. 14 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren (and counting). Survivors include his children and their spouses; Melody and husband Michael Bruch, Robin and husband Bill Richards, Craig and wife Karen Hardy, Scott and wife Michelle Hardy, Heather and husband Charlie Porter and Heath and wife Melissa Hardy.
The grandchildren include; Misty, Megan and Erick; Amanda and Amber; Cody, Kylie and Justin; Travis and Natalie; Taylor and Jessica, Sarah and Olivia.
The great grandchildren include; Trent, Vance, Rylee, Logan, Keeleigh, Maddox and Connor; Madison, Hardy and Carter; Anthony and Major and James, Skylar and the newest member in the family Bennett
Don served honorably in the United States Air Force enlisting in October of 1952. He was stationed in Korea during the war and received the following accommodations and awards

• National Defense Service Medal
• Good Conduct Medal
Don was honorably discharged in September 1956 and served in the United States Air Force Reserves until 1960.
Don earned Bachelor of Science degrees from Sam Houston State University and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Kansas.
Don worked in the Kansas City Kansas school district for over 40 years and held many different positions including teacher, coach and assistant principal. He was a legend for his time spent as Physical Education teacher at Arrowhead Junior High and the “Hardy’s Hammer”.
A visitation will be held Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 1:00-2:00 PM followed by a funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Military Funeral Honors will take place at the graveside service immediately following at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
