David Willis Wilkey, age 79, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away September 15, 2022 at home from natural causes. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. A graveside service with military honors will be immediately following at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Wilkey was born August 9, 1943 in Kansas City, Kansas. David was the youngest of 7 children. He grew up in Kansas City, Kansas and attended Rosedale High School until joining the United States Marine Corps in 1963 at the age of 17. David served 3 years in the Marines with a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. He then met Karen Katz and married in November 1967 and had two wonderful sons. They later divorced in 2008. David lived most of his life in Kansas City and spent 32 years working for General Motors and retired at the age of 62. He was an avid member of the VFW and UAW.
David loved Colorado and jeep trailing throughout the Rockies. Those adventures nourished his love for Colorado and the bountiful beauty that Colorado held. In addition, he loved his country and the United States Marine Corps with every fiber of his existence.
David is survived by his two sons, Ken and Scott Wilkey; daughters-in law, Angi and Tanya Wilkey; and his three grandchildren, Mitchell, Eric and Logan Wilkey. In addition, he is survived by his sister Marilyn Atchley; niece, Bonnie Luth and numerous other family members and loved ones.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Grace Wilkey; brothers, Cecil Jr, Richard and Donald Wilkey; and sisters, Darlene Taylor and Donna Luth.
