Cyril A. “Doc” Winkelbauer, 95, of Horton, KS, passed away Dec. 28, 2017. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00pm, Mon., Jan. 1, 2018, with a Rosary prayed at 6:30pm, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th St., KS, KS 66112. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am, Tues., Jan. 2nd at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment with Honors will be held at 3:00pm, Tues. at St. Leo’s Catholic Cemetery in Horton, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Pat’s School Library or St. Leo’s Cemetery.
Cyril was born Oct. 30, 1922 in Horton, KS to Robert and Christina (Bickelmeier) Winkelbauer. He graduated from Horton HS and joined the US Army, serving during WWII from 1943-1946. Cyril met the love of his life, Lena Mae Haun at a USO in Dallas over a ping pong game, and they married Sept. 30, 1946. He was a self-employed carpenter, a job in which he was very dedicated and passionate about. Cyril was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of both St. Leo’s in Horton and St. Patrick’s in KCK. Cyril enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, and working on projects – he could make just about anything.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, Lena Mae; his son, Robert Eugene; and 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Cyril is survived by his children, Eugenia Winkelbauer (Paul Paulakovich) of KCK, Tim (Cheryl) of Smithville, MO, Dennis (Deborah) of KCK, Karen LaHue (Nic) of KCK, and Sharon Waugh (Jim) of El Dorado, KS; two sisters-in-law, Rita Winkelbauer, and Billie Haun; as well as 10 grandkids and 13 great-grandkids.
