Charles Laymon (95) of Kansas City, Kansas went to his heavenly home on November 22, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife Fern White. Left to mourn his passing are his children, Charlotte Laymon Roberts (Allen), Carolyn Laymon Ewell, Julia Laymon Burbage, John Laymon, and Warren Dean Laymon, 16 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and 31 great great grandchildren. Also survived by his siblings Marie Laymon Carver, Walter Merle Laymon, & Candace Laymon Myers.
During his life Charlie had a passion for all things to do with airplanes and flying. At the age of sixteen he earned his pilot's license on a Piper Cub in Iola, Kansas. Shortly after that he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps which became the US Air Force during his tour of duty. His field of service was electronics (avionics), after his service he received more training and eventually went to work for TWA (Trans World Airlines). He stayed with TWA until his retirement. He acquired his own four seater plane and flew with a group of fellow enthusiasts from Noah's Ark Airfield in Kansas City. He simply loved flying and took his family on many rides. His daughter Charlotte and granddaughter Cathy were so inspired by him they both learned to fly also.
Charles was predeceased by his parents, John Warren Laymon and Ethel Reita Agner Laymon, his first wife Jessie Helen Gineste Laymon, his siblings Opal Laymon Mandel, Phillip Eldon Laymon, Floy Laymon Ingham, his daughters Constance (Connie) Laymon & Fay Laymon Dizaji.
Memorial contributions made to Emerson Park Christian Church where he and Fern have been longtime members.
A visitation for Charles will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112, followed by a funeral services at 11:00 AM. Charles will be laid to rest in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
