“Big John” Naylor, 69, of Kansas City, KS, passed away October 26, 2021 after a long illness. A visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00pm, Sat. Oct. 30th at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94t St., Kansas City, KS 66112. Graveside services will follow at 3:00pm at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family requests no suits, ties, or dresses for Big John’s services, please dress comfortably. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Organization (DAV), P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
Big John was born August 19, 1952 in Kansas City, KS to L. V. “Pete” and Alice (Unruh) Naylor. He graduated from Wyandotte High School. He served in the Army from 1974-75. John reminisced fondly over his military service as he learned a lot about his German heritage while stationed there. John worked for Mobil as an oil blender for over 25 years.
He married Evelyn Huntley in 1993, they enjoyed 28 years of marriage before her passing this May. He was very active in a traveling volleyball team in his younger years and also enjoyed playing basketball. Whenever he could, John would attend air shows with his family. He was one of the first people to get an Apple computer and even built his own computers over the years. John also enjoyed gaming with his grandson on the Xbox. He was a huge John Wayne fan and enjoyed the Big Dog brand of clothing.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Evelyn Naylor; and his siblings, Gary Naylor and Patricia Merritt.
He is survived by his children, Trish Lopez (Joham), and Mike Naylor (Sheri); his grandson, Elijah Friend; his brother-in-law, Brad Merritt; as well as several nieces, other relatives and many friends.
