Born in Honolulu on Sept. 9, 1955, Rene grew up in Kaneohe and was a lifetime Oahu resident, most recently in Waianae. Her parents, both deceased, were Katsuhiko Tamanaha and June Nani (Kaai) Tamanaha.
Rene attended Castle High School in Kaneohe and pursued additional education in community college and became a certified medical assistant. Most of her professional life was centered in hospitality and customer service and operations roles in the local automotive industry, including with Cutter Auto Group in Honolulu.
A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and mother-figure to many, Rene is survived by her Son Lawrence Tamanaha (Fawn Landry) of Kalihi; Daughter Kristin Tamanaha (Preston Lewellen) of Waianae; Foster Son Robert Darty (Marie) of Richmond, Calif; Brothers, Miles Tamanaha of Comanche, Texas and Paul Tamanaha (Alan Anderson) of Tempe, Arizona; Grandchildren Tihani, Talita, Temoana, Katsu, Tatiana, Kanai'a, Cheyenne, Kai, Koa, Dakota, Jaida, Brad, Bree, Naomi, Prestine and Leimamo; and Great Grandchildren Naveah, Brynlee, Nahdiya, and Nataliah.
Rene was preceded in death by Sons Chad Kaliko Tamanaha and Robert Tamanaha. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 11:30 am in the Chapel at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery, 45-425 Kamehameha Highway, Kaneohe, Hawaii, 96744. Arrival and visitation will begin at 10:45 am. Subsequent burial at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery will be private.
