Haruno Clara Tamashiro, 100, previously of Waimanalo, HI, a retired homemaker/farmer passed away on December 3, 2015 in South Bay Keiro Nursing home.   She was born in Waipahu, HI.

She is predeceased by daughter Hinako, husband Harold Tokusuke, son-in-law Randal Nakao, grandson Robert and recently deceased son Andrew Tamashiro.    

She is survived by her loving family; sons James (Janet) and Rodney (Charlotte) and daughter-in-law Dale Tamashiro; daughters Jane (Roger) Ishikawa, Mae Nakao, Karen (Glenn) Oishi and Arlene (Dennis) Munemura.   She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; siblings Eleanor Arakawa, Thelma Oshiro, Willard (Dixie), Harrison (Helen) and Wilfred (Faith) Miyahira.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives in California and Hawaii.

My Mom, Haruno Tamashiro was a Very Beautiful, Loving, Supportive, Intelligent, Witty and Talented woman who had a difficult life in that she labored for 72 out of her 100 years of life, either helping to raise her 9 siblings, 7 children, niece and nephew, cook and clean for her family and in-laws while toiling the farm. 

Many are unaware that she wanted to be a nurse, read medical books and was into health foods, purified water and vitamins decades before it became fashionable.   She was a talented cook who like Gordon Ramsey cooked by taste, an excellent seamstress able to design and create her own patterns, a horticulturist who grafted a specialized guava that was able to produce juice 3x the amount of the ordinary guava and raise the most beautiful orchids and anthuriums.  My Mom also had an affinity towards animals.. she was a true Dr. Doolittle.  She was a world traveler, having visited many cities, states, countries and five out of seven continents, some even twice!  

My Mom was very stoic and endured a lot of physical pain in her 100 years of life having endured a quadruple bypass, a carotid artery, a pin placed in her hip, gall bladder removal and a gangrene foot where her toes self amputated.   Throughout it all, I feel it was her belief in God which she instilled in her children that helped her endure the personal and physical hardships in her life.   

My Mom had common sense and a wit that I will long remember... here is my example.   While looking for a dog at the animal shelter, my husband and I found a three colored male cat, but it had been neutered.   For those who are unaware, a three colored male cat is very rare and if you find one it will bring you Good Luck and/or Good Fortune; this is why you see so many Asian businesses having a three colored ceramic cat in the front of their establishments.  My parents had a friend who owned a three colored male cat and they were very wealthy.

Anyway, I called my Mom immediately and told her that I found a three colored male cat but he had been fixed and not being whole would that negate the fact that he would bring me the Good Luck / Wealth.  She said did I have to pay for the cat?  
I told her, "Yes, $65.00".  She asked where I planned to keep the cat.   I told her outside.   She then said what if the cat runs away.   I said, "Yeah Mom, if the cat runs away would my Good Luck / Wealth run away, too?"  She then said, "I don't know about that, but you'll be out $65.00".   LOL!!! What common-sense!!!

Mom, Thank You for being such a Beautiful, Loving, Supportive and Wonderful Mother who taught us the importance of having God in our lives.  I Love You and am happy knowing you are now pain free and finally got to go home to the Loving Arms of God!   I miss you Mom, but your spirit remains alive in my heart and memories of You!   Until we meet again!
