It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sara Saari, after a six-year battle with cancer. Sara passed peacefully on June 20th, 2024, with her family by her side.
Sara was born in Kamloops on May 9th, 1977. Growing up she enjoyed spending time at the family cabin, on the ski hill, and playing a variety of sports. In her teens she moved to Whistler to pursue ski racing on the Canadian Women’s Western Team. From there she spent a short time in Vancouver before returning to Kamloops where she began a career in real estate with her dad. This career lasted until her children were born, after which she decided to pursue nursing. Sara began working in community health care which then led to her working in pediatrics, her dream job. She later moved on to continue nursing in ACU. Sara developed great friendships with many special Doctors and Nurses throughout her career.
One of Sara’s biggest joys was her family. Sara cherished her daughters; she took pride in watching them grow, cheering them on at their sporting events, and spending quality time with them at home or on their many trips. She loved spending time with everyone at Sun peaks, at the lake, and at family gatherings. Along with her human family, she also showed so much love for her many dogs.
Although Sara left us much too soon, her time with us will be cherished by many. Sara is survived by her husband John Saari, her daughters Alina and Kalie Saari, her mother Catherine Applegath, and her brother Daimon Applegath, as well as many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. She was predeceased by her father Michael Applegath.
Sara was a remarkable wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend to those fortunate enough to know her. Her kindness and love were felt by everyone she met. Known for her fierce approach to life, she made the most of the time she had with us. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, her thoughtfulness, her sense of adventure, and her toughness.
A Celebration of Life will take place at TRU Campus Activity Center, in the Mountain Room on July 20th at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, donation in Sara’s memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
