Born in No. 2 Village, East Canje, Berbice, Guyana on March 30, 1938 to the late Budhan and Lucille (Chutkan) Rampersaud. He was the third of their seven children: Betty (Shirley), Rosemarina (Rita), Marlene, dearly departed Ricardo, Ula and Bridget (Leila). He went to No. 2 Village School and was recognized as a bright scholar receiving a book prize at a very young age. He was not able to complete his secondary school studies but instead went to work with his beloved Uncle Somal in his general store. With that experience, Stanley came back to work in his own family’s grocery store in Sheet Anchor at the age of 13 and was a tremendous asset to his family. With the success of that store, his brother, (the late) Ricardo was able to travel to England to pursue his medical education and the family bought a second store in Stanleytown, Berbice which was run by his mother, Lucille and sister, Shirley. This left Stanley as sole manager of the original store while his father, Budhan ran a rice mill. As a dutiful son, Stanley helped raise his younger siblings.
He married Chandra Ramsarran on February 10, 1963. They had four children: Patricia (Sunina), Ansy, Alston and Marvin. Together they worked hard and sold the original store and purchased a dry goods store on Pitt Street and moved his growing family to Trinity Street, New Amsterdam. He was a cherished son who provided a home to his parents while he and Chandra raised their children under the watchful eyes of his parents, Budhan and Lucille.
As a devoted family man, Stanley enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a strong role model as a God-fearing person, successful businessman and respected community leader.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Chandra and children: Patricia and her husband, Sankar of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; Ansy and her husband, Mukesh of Queens, New York; Alston and his wife, Nola of Parma, Ohio; Marvin and his wife, Dimple of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren Sean, Ryan, Diana, Andrew, Regina, Anjali, Satruhon, Anandi, and Akshay; older brother, Rudolph of Ontario, Canada; sisters Shirley, Rita, Marlene, Ula and Leila, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
