Robert Earle Prout, 89 years old of Jupiter, FL passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016. Born in Providence, RI, he was raised in Barrington, RI, where, as captain and center, he was admitted into the Barrington Sports Hall of Fame in 2008 for leading his football team to a season that was not only undefeated but also unscored upon. Robert was a veteran of WWII serving with the Army Air Corp. He graduated in 1950 from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Civil Engineering. Robert moved to Boca Raton in 1961 and was President of the first Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce from 1962-63. He worked for Gilbane Building Company, Powdrell & Alexander, and The Flagler System/The Breakers, where he retired. Bob’s career was rich in experiences, as he focused on construction and real estate development including the Eastern Airlines Terminal (Kennedy Airport), the largest General Motors plant in Ohio (at the time), a US Air force base in Newfoundland, Canada; the ship harbor at Montego Bay, Jamaica; Camino Gardens in Boca Raton and Breakers Row in Palm Beach. He was a member of the Rhode Island Country Club, the Barrington Yacht Club, the Boca Raton Resort & Club and Jonathan’s Landing Yacht and Golf Clubs. His parents, Earle and Rita Prout and brother Earle Prout, Jr. predeceased him.
Bob’s strong handshake was symbolic of his strong character. He had a passion for living life to it’s fullest and loved all aspects of the sea & boating. Over his life he was a mentor and friend to many, always smiling with a twinkle in his eyes.
He is survived by his loving wife, partner & first mate for over 30 years, Mary Kay Prout (Economou); brother: Donald Prout of Wilmington, NC; sons: Frederick Prout (Rebecca), Steven Prout and Michael Prout from Delray Beach, FL; Five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; a mother-in-law, three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, three nieces and three nephews.
A Memorial celebration will be held from 2:00pm until 4:00pm on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Aycock-Riverside Funeral Home.
