Born in Jersey City, NJ, Regina grew up attending Catholic schools and remained very active in the Catholic church throughout her life. She met and married her husband James in Argentina, then lived in Mexico and Brazil where their daughter and son were born respectively. Upon returning to Michigan to raise their children, Regina volunteered at their schools and was always helping those in need. She loved traveling the world, playing tennis, bridge, Mah Jongg, teaching religious education classes and, most of all, spending time with her family whom she always showered with unconditional and undying love. Regina and James retired in Hilton Head Island, SC, where she loved the beach, shelling, and looking for sharks’ teeth. Her last many years were spent in Florida, as she and James wanted to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Regina was predeceased by James Gillespie Jr., the love of her life and husband of 50 wonderful years. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Hayduk (Richard), her son James Gillespie III (Katie), her five grandchildren (Vaughn, Jordan, Kasey, Jamison, and Abe), her brother John Allen, her sisters Patricia Figliola and Agnes DeJacomo, and many more nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom she loved dearly.
Regina lit up every room she entered with her beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes. She so loved the Lord and her loved ones are comforted to know that she was ever grateful for the gifts of forgiveness and eternal life thanks to His sacrifice. She will be dearly missed and in our hearts forever.
A memorial service for Regina will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola, 9999 N Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association or to Trustbridge Hospice Care.
