At 91-years-old, God has welcomed home His beautiful, creative daughter, who will forever remain in our hearts.
Peggy was born in Danville, Virginia, a Christmas blessing to her family. She attended Florida State University after graduating from Miami Edison Senior High School. Peggy worked as a switch board operator for Southern Bell, where she met her husband of 62 years, Heber C. Evatt. “Herb,” as he was called, preceded his wife in December 2015.
Throughout her life, Peggy empowered other women! When there was only one county courthouse, she contracted to open a branch, Evatt’s Auto Tag Agency, in Northern Palm Beach County for auto and license renewal. This venture led her into politics, where she used her talents to make a change.
Peggy was president of the Palm Beach County Democratic Party, assistant supervisor of elections, and finally became the first woman county commissioner in 1976! Peggy broke the glass ceiling for women in politics!
Her proudest accomplishment was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Pamela Adams and son-in-law Charlie; granddaughter, Caitlin; great-granddaughter, Emme; her son, Ronald Evatt and daughter-in-law Cheryl; grandchildren, Lindsey and Brandon and great-granddaughter, Brianna.
As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you. 2 Kings 2:2
