Normand was born June 5, 1924 in Woonsocket, RI to the late Joseph and Leona (Pepin) Varieur. He graduated from Mt. St. Charles in Woonsocket, RI in 1943 and from Hill College in Woonsocket, RI in 1948. On August 16, 1947 he married Doris Levesque with whom he shared 67 wonderful years. He leaves behind one brother, Joseph Varieur, Jr. along with his family. He is predeceased by two sisters; Theresa Coutu and Lucienne Dulac, and one brother Leo Varieur.
For over 35 years, Normand was employed as Vice President of Finance at Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights, IL. He retired in 2006, but never one to stay idle, he enjoyed traveling, visiting with his family, a good steakhouse, and the occasional trip to the blackjack table. In particular Normand loved spending summers on his beloved Cape Cod where he and Doris hosted friends and family at their home for most of their life.
Normand was also a veteran having served in the US Army in Central Europe during World War II. His service was a point of pride for him and he recently participated in an Honor Flight which enabled him to visit the memorials in Washington D.C. where he was honored for his service.
He is survived by his loving wife, Doris and three devoted children: Janet (Varieur) Jaffke (James), Normand Varieur (Susan), Raymond Varieur (Tammie) along with eight grandchildren: Jacob, Jessica, Raymond, Melissa, Ashley, Amber, Aimee, Jennifer and two great granddaughters, Shelby and Jaina. He is predeceased by his daughter, Denise Varieur.
His viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 1 from 5pm-8pm at Aycock Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter. A Catholic service will be held on Thursday, July 2, at 11:00am, at St. Patrick Church, 13591 Prosperity Farms Rd., Palm Beach Gardens and burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery, 19351 SE County Line Rd., Tequesta.
