Marvin “Toby” Tobias Silverman, a pioneer in the dairy industry, peacefully passed away at his home in North Palm Beach on April 26, 2022. He was born on June 5,1926 and lived until he was almost 96. He was the youngest of four brothers, born in New York City to Henry Silverman who immigrated from Russia and Rose Edinger Silverman who immigrated from Poland. (He and his brothers were the first generation born in the USA.) He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis Louise Kepler, in 2012 and survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Peter.
He honorably served his country, joining the US Navy when he was 17 and was coxswain on ship APA 166 Fon du Lac, during and through the end of World War II. He attended Cobbleskill College after the war, then graduated from Cornell University.
He began his corporate career at Dellwood Dairy and became Vice President. Dellwood evolved to become a publicly traded company, Deltown Foods, and he played a key role in creating the Deltown Chemurgic division as Vice President.
During 1972 he founded PTX Food Corp., an international import/export dairy protein company. Years later he expanded his company by constructing a manufacturing facility, a fermentation plant that provided key ingredients to the food industry. He retired in 2008.
Toby Silverman was a kind soul, tenacious, jovial (loved telling jokes), very intelligent, sociable, generous, creative, the best story teller, food and wine connoisseur, animal lover (especially dogs and horses), a loving husband and father.
A funeral service for Marvin was held Tuesday, May 3, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL 33458. Following the funeral service was a graveside service from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Riverside Memorial Park, 19351 SE County Line Road, Tequesta, FL 33469.
