On the morning of January 25, 2023, Lisa Rose Schlags Lardner passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at her home in Jupiter, Florida. 62 years ago, on March 7th 1960, Lisa’s light first shone onto this world in Englewood, New Jersey. She was raised by her loving mother and father, Josephine and Harvey Schlags, alongside her little sisters, Lori and Erin. Lisa grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey and attended Tenafly High School, where she would eventually meet the love of her life, Richard “Ricky” Lardner II, at the age of 16. Her childhood was an idyllic time in her life, which she recalled fondly. She stayed in contact with her friends throughout the many chapters of her life. She would fill with excitement when it was time for a reunion, which she would always bring her husband Ricky, whether he was able to attend or not.
Lisa would then go on to attend Ithaca College and then The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, where she cultivated an interest in architecture and interior design. She met lifelong friends and attended concerts of some of the times greatest musicians. Later, on November 5, 1988, Lisa and Rick tied the knot in Hackensack, New Jersey in the presence of their many adoring family and friends. Not too long after, Lisa and Rick would go on to get pregnant and receive the greatest gifts of their lives, twins Kelsey Reed and Richard Allen III, on October 4th, 1993. Their first family home was in Jackson, New Jersey before moving to Jupiter, Florida, where they would eventually settle down to enjoy the water and warm weather.
Over the years, Lisa worked as an Interior Designer, but her greatest joys came from motherhood, scrapbooking, photography, traveling, spending time with family, and most importantly God. Lisa traveled the world, journeying to Europe, the Mediterranean, South America, Israel, United States National Parks, and everywhere in between. But of all these places, Long Beach Island, New Jersey was her favorite. She enjoyed the calm of the crashing waves and long hikes down the shoreline. She coordinated family get-togethers and parties with close and distant relatives alike. Further north, in upstate New York, she spent time at the lake watching her children and their cousins play in the water and enjoy evening campfires.
Even after Lisa became sick, she continued to enjoy these things with her family. Most recently, she traversed the breathtaking landscapes of Yellowstone, Glacier, and Grand Tetons National Park. Her last Christmas was spent in New York City, where she snapped photos of her favorite buildings and the Rockefeller Christmas Tree alongside family and friends. She dined at some of her favorite restaurants she hadn’t been to since she was young. In her mother Josephine’s words: “She did her bucket”.
Lisa is survived by her loving husband, Richard Lardner II; a son, Richard Lardner III; a daughter, Kelsey Lardner and her mother, Josephine Schlags.
She is predeceased by her father, Harvey Schlags and a sister, Erin Schlags.
