As a child, Larry performed as a vocalist with various musical groups and choirs, including the Zanesville Youth Choir who toured Europe in 1963 and sang with the Lennon Sisters. In his early career he was a middle school teacher and later in life he was employed as a school psychologist at Palm Beach County Schools for 40+ years and as an adjunct university instructor at FAU.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ since childhood. Over the years in the church he served as a bible school teacher, deacon, elder and songleader. His current membership is with Creekside Church of Christ in Riverview, Florida. Larry loved all types of music and enjoyed playing the guitar, he loved playing & watching sports such as golf, tennis, football, softball, bowling, and basketball. Later in life he participated in duplicate bridge where he attained bronze life master status.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Connie Porter; a daughter, Alicia Taylor (Paul); a son, Larry Porter, Jr. (Michele); a brother, Kenneth Porter; a sister, Paula (Porter) Boop and three grandchildren, Collin Porter, Kendall Taylor, and Jack Porter.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL 33458, followed by a funeral service at 12:30 PM.
