Joanne Dalber, 93, was called to her heavenly home on December 20, 2020. She was born Ioanna Galanoudakis in Aghios Nikolaos, on the island of Crete, Greece. She emigrated to the United States in 1957 and spent the next 40 years in the Chicago area, where she was employed for 22 years as an adjudicator by the State of Illinois before retiring to Jupiter, FL in 1998.
Joanne was a devout Greek Orthodox Christian. She was a longtime member of St. Demetrios Church in Chicago, IL and Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Glenview, IL. Upon relocating, she joined St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in West Palm Beach, FL, where she served on the Parish Council and was involved in many parish ministries and organizations. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society for 56 years and was a longtime Board member of St. Catherine’s Chapter. She was also a member of the Daughters of Penelope for over 45 years, 21 of them as a member of Leda #59 in West Palm Beach. She served as the chapter’s president and was instrumental in establishing its first Scholarship Award program. Her passion for philanthropy extended to organizations such as Alzheimer’s Community Care and AVDA (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse). She served on AVDA’s Advisory Board and was honored with the “Heart of a Woman” award for personal service and commitment.
Joanne will forever be remembered for her dedication to causes that moved her, her perseverance for what she believed in, her compassion for those less fortunate, and her deep love for her family.
Joanne was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, James Dalber.
She leaves to cherish and honor her memory her daughters, Nicke Musgrove (Steven) of Jupiter, FL, and Maria DiBenedetto (Michael) of Glenview, IL; her grandchildren, Anthony (Ferry Lopez), Vanessa and Kristopher DiBenedetto, Joanna Musgrove, and Demetra (Paul) Pavlakos and her great-grandson, Aspen DiBenedetto.
Funeral service will be at St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church, 110 Southern Blvd., West Palm Beach, FL on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church, prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park in Tequesta.
