Joan graduated from Westwood High School in New Jersey, and went on to graduate from Averett College in Danville, Virginia. After school, she worked for several years as a dental assistant until her marriage to her loving husband, Richard F. Tice, in 1951. She worked alongside her husband for their family business; Tice Farms, in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, until she retired in 1998.
As a young girl, Joan enjoyed being on the Westwood High School Women’s Basketball team and cheerleading squad. She was an avid roller skater with her friends at the Paramus, New Jersey roller rink. After her children were born, she was an active member of the PTA in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey where they lived and also active in the Girl Scouts of America. She was a member of the Ridgewood Golf Club in Paramus, New Jersey, as well as a member of the Jupiter Hills Golf Club in Tequesta, Florida. She spent her retired years divided between Incline Village, Nevada, and Tequesta, Florida on Jupiter Island. She was also a member of the Incline Village Championship Golf Club. Joan loved to play bridge for many many years. She was a member of Jupiter First Church in Jupiter, Florida.
Joan is survived by her 95 year-old husband of 73 years, Richard F. Tice; daughters, Susan Cherrington (John Callahan) of Hobe Sound, Florida, Donna McGee (Kristy McGee) of Simpsonville, South Carolina; cherished “Mimi” to grandchildren, Autumn Cherrington, of Woodstock, Georgia, Kyle McGee (Carey McGee) of Venetia, Pennsylvania, Kara Frazier (Luke Frazier), of Wellington, Florida, Alyssa Kuzia (Graham Kuzia) of Woodstock, Georgia, Kasey McGee (Megan McGee) of Fort Mill, South Carolina and great-grandchildren, Matthew McGee (11), MacKenzie Frazier (8), Elliott Kuzia (8), Elena McGee (7), Harper Frazier (7), Audrey McGee (6), William McGee (5), Nora Kuzia (5) and Amelia Cherrington (1).
Joan was predeceased by her sister, Betty-Ann Keyes; her son, Richard Elliott Tice; her grandson, Kristy-Eugene McGee, Jr.; and her great grandson, Ethan Paul Frazier.
Joan lived a long, full life with a lot of travel and surrounded by her close-knit family and friends. She was always smiling, generous, and kind, and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Joan suffered a long journey with Alzheimer’s Disease, but throughout her illness she always showed grace and courage; no matter what else she forgot, she always remembered her manners. Sweet until the end.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL 33458. A funeral service will begin in the funeral home at 2:00 PM. The committal service will follow at Riverside Memorial Park in Tequesta, FL. Family and friends are encouraged to wear pink, Joan’s favorite color.
