George was born in Bridgeport, CT on December 11, 1934 to Joseph Schneider and Viola Blaisdell. After attending Bridgeport schools, he served in the United States Army from 1956-1959. While stationed in Needham, MA, he met his future wife Regina Bonoldi. They married in 1962, and soon afterwards George started his own business, Minuteman Carpet Service.
George and Reggie lived in Southborough for over thirty years, where they raised their daughter, Kimberly, and formed many lifelong friendships in their close-knit neighborhood. George was an active member of the Southborough Lions and Gourmet Clubs. He and Reggie enjoyed many neighborhood and social gatherings, and truly took pleasure in time spent together at their vacation home in Kennebunkport, ME.
George recently shared how lucky he felt to have had two wonderful lives. First, with his wife of 35 years, and then after Reggie’s passing in 1997, his ‘second life’ with his long time friend, Jean deCastro. Over their 26 years together, George and Jean enjoyed trips to Europe, Las Vegas getaways and spent much of their time together with family and friends in Wolfeboro, NH and Jupiter, FL.
George took up many hobbies over the years, including building wooden boats and golfing. He enjoyed swimming in Lake Winnipesaukee, doing jigsaw puzzles, painting and cooking for family. His extended family will always remember George for his pasta, pork loin and meatloaf recipes, and simply for being a gentle giant who was laid back and easy going. George never looked for praise, and was never one to boast. He just went on quietly working, and enjoying the ones he loved. Time spent with golf buddies, dinner out with friends, and seeing his grandchildren thrive in their various endeavors were his true passions.
George was predeceased by his wife Regina Schneider, and is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Gurski, her husband John and grandsons, Jack and Thomas of Kennebunkport, ME. George is also survived by his longtime companion, Jean deCastro and family, Susan deCastro, her husband Allen Rosenfeld, and their children Andrew, Ben and Lilly of Westborough, MA, Stephen deCastro and his wife Kristen and their children, Annie, Clara, and Tyler of Falmouth, ME and Michael deCastro and his wife Jules and their son Nicholas of Salt Lake City, UT. He also leaves his brother Ronald Schneider of Newtown, CT and his sister Lois Harris of Hudson, NH as well as his nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring. Should friends desire, memorial contributions can be made to the Framingham Heart Study, 73 Mt Wayte Ave Suite 2, Framingham, MA 01702
