Born in Philadelphia Pa, and lived on Miami Florida with her beloved husband Richard “Dick” Hughes (deceased) for 33 years before relocating to Jupiter Florida in the 1980's. Betty had worked in the Burger King head office doing secretarial work for many years. Once she had retired, she kept herself busy as a food sampler in the grocery stores for many more. Betty had many things that she enjoyed in life. And it’s hard to say which she loved more. She loved to knit and sew. She made all her own clothing, Dicks clothing and how could she not make her grand children's clothing? If Betty saw a clothing article that she liked, she would make her own version of it with her own tag on it that said...Made especially for you by Betty Hughes. Betty and Dick were best friends and had always done everything together. They had season tickets to their favorite foot ball team, The Miami Dolphins, when they lived in Miami and would never miss a game on TV when they moved to Jupiter. They loved to boat and fish and had a few beautiful boats that they enjoyed taking their children and grandchildren out fishing on. Bowling was a fun night time activity that Betty and Dick would do on a league together. And anyone who knew Betty knew she loved to dance. If there was music playing anywhere at anytime, she was grabbing a partner and scootin to the music. One thing Betty never had troubles with was making friends. She had many stories to tell, and loved to share them with everyone. After all, she and Dick traveled through all 50 states together in their travel camper. She had plenty of stories for listening ears.
Betty is survived by her estranged son Michael Hughes of PBG, FL, daughter Eileen Read of Jupiter FL, granddaughter Joy Campbell of Fort Mill SC, and her very first bird Betty Boop.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday April 13, 2011 at Aycock Funeral Home with burial to follow at Riverside Memorial Park in Tequesta. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday 7-9 pm.
Tears of sorrow are often the wrong expression for someone who has lived honestly, successfully, and fully. The best exclamation point for the end of their story is a smile.
