On July 4th, 2018, Edith (Edie) Margaret Singer, 74, passed away peacefully at her home in Palm Beach Gardens, FL after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. She bravely fought for two years, never gave up, and showed us all what it means to be strong with a pragmatically positive outlook in the face of insurmountable odds. Edie was born in Frankfurt Germany in 1943 to Ernst and Anna (nee Bohm) Neuenhaus. She spent her early years in Germany and the US working as an English translator for businesses rebuilding in post war Europe. She went on to build a successful career as a leading realtor in Northern Virginia where, even in retirement, her clients would reach out for advice and counsel.
She met her husband, Ronald Singer (Col, USAF RET), in 1964, and with him enjoyed a life as an Air Force wife living in Germany, Illinois, New Jersey, Washington DC, and then on to Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Of all the places she lived, her most treasured were Hawaii, and her final home in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Her love of travel continued into retirement as she and Ron visited every corner of the world and Edie was able to fulfill her passion for exploring and learning about different cultures. She immersed herself in the traditions and culture of each unique environment.
She was a loving and devoted wife for 51 years and they remained inseparable in life and love. Her encouragement and fresh perspective were a constant source of support to Ron and her family.
Edie has always been someone who once you’ve met, you’ll never forget. She always remembered a name and face, always wanted the best from herself and everyone around her, always made sure that family and friends were first in her mind. Her presence will always be felt.
She is survived by her husband, Ron; two sons, Vernon and Mark; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be on Sunday, July 8th at Temple Judea, 4311 Hood Rd, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410 with a future internment at Arlington National Cemetery. The Aycock-Riverside Funeral Home, Jupiter, FL is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be offered at www.aycockfuneralhome.com.
