Charles W. Elliott, known as Charlie to all who knew him, passed away September 29, 2024 at Luxe Healthcare Facility in Jupiter, Florida, at the age of 96. He is the son of Charles Elliott and Mary Sheridan of Luzerne, Pennsylvania. Charlie was born on April 7, 1928 and lived in Pennsylvania until he joined the Army in 1947.
He attended Luzerne High School, and went on to receive his GED while in the Army, eventually earning his Bachelor's degree while attending classes at night. He was married to Lillian A. Petroski Elliott on May 8, 1954. She would go on to accompany him on their many travels throughout the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. Lillian passed away on 28, December 2009.
During his life he served in both the Army and later in the Air Force, where he became an aircraft mechanic, a trade he would eventually use in civilian life. Charlie later moved into Civil Service work with various agencies of the Federal Government living in Virginia, Illinois and eventually moving to Jupiter in 1971, working as a supervisor and inspector at both Grumman Aerospace and Pratt and Whitney, eventually retiring to live in Jupiter until his death. He also served as a civilian attached to the Corps of Engineers in Saudi Arabia for four years.
He was active in sports, achieving the status of Golden Gloves Boxing Champion in the Army, with a lifetime love of basketball and softball, participating in local leagues as long as he was physically able, and organizing several youth sports teams in Jupiter. He also delighted in visiting local farms in the area and distributing the vegetables to friends and neighbors. Charlie never met a stranger, only a new friend. His outgoing personality endeared him to everyone he met.
He is survived by his son, James Charles Elliott (Genie Sapp); his daughter, Denise Marie Elliott Perry (David Perry, deceased); grandchildren, Anette Marie Perry, Rebekah Elliott (Dayton Syme), Padraic Elliott (Savana Roache) and great-grandchildren, Jesse David Perry, Jace Lee Perry, John Charles Perry, and Joshua Wayne Perry.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The graveside service will be held at the South Florida National Cemetery. Date and time to be announced.
