Tony was born on August 11,1937 in Red Bank, NJ where he graduated from Red Bank High School. Tony then entered the United States Navy and served his country as a Petty Officer during his active service and the US Navy Reserve. Tony completed his BS and MBA at Monmouth University, West Long Branch, NJ, while working full time and raising a family.
During his time at Red Bank High School, Tony met Antonette Siciliano from Middletown, NJ. They were sweethearts from the beginning. Antonette (Toni) anxiously awaited Tony’s return from the navy to start their life together. Tony and Toni were married on August 29th 1959 in Red Bank, NJ and were happily married for 63 years. They were blessed with two daughters, Lea and Carolyn, and raised their family eventually moving from New Jersey to Massachusetts. They retired to Florida and spent their summers on Cape Cod.
Tony had a long and successful career in electronics, starting with Electronics Associates Incorporated (EAI) in Long Branch, NJ., moving to Autonetics in California supporting NASA and then rejoining EAI. Tony joined Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in 1977 and served in a variety of positions for 25 years, retiring from Hewlett Packard (HP).
Tony enjoyed many hobbies. He was an accomplished private pilot, earning many ratings and spent many hours in the air, traveling across the US. He also enjoyed building and flying RC planes. Tony loved being on the water; he was an avid fisherman and boater. He was a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary on Cape Cod, MA and Palm Beach County, FL. Tony and Toni loved to travel the world, especially with their friends and family. Tony also enjoyed house projects, gardening and had a great appreciation of food and a passion for cooking. Tony was a long-time member of St Patrick Catholic Church in Palm Beach Gardens.
Tony was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle who loved his family deeply. He is survived by his beloved wife, Toni; 2 daughters, Lea (Basso) Schneider and her husband Rick, Carolyn (Basso) Perez; grandchildren, Kara (Schneider) Sullivan and her husband Christopher, Gregory Schneider and his wife, Marissa, Nina Perez and Sara Perez; great grandchildren, Rose Sullivan, Luke Sullivan, Bryce Schneider; brother John Maletto and his wife Colleen; nephews Mike Basso and his wife Debbie, Cameron Maletto; nieces Kathleen (Basso) Street and her husband Patrick, Elizabeth (Basso) Knox and her husband Robert and several grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and older brother, Michael Basso.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 26th at 11:00am at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County or Jupiter Medical Center.
