If you’re about to throw away a morsel of food or a gently worn piece of clothing, stop. Instead, think about Adele Johnson. She would tell you: “It’s a sin to waste”. Adele Johnson passed away peacefully on November 29, 2017 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida surrounded by family. She leaves behind a legacy of life lessons like this as well as family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Adele was born on September 12, 1927 in Huntington Woods, Michigan to the late Ann and Frank Birrell. She was the middle child between her late older brother Frankie and younger sister Joanne.
In 1948, Adele married Duane Johnson who now awaits her arrival in heaven. Their union produced 7 children – “one of everything”, Adele would say, which referenced the unique personalities and skills she nurtured in her children.
Adele’s son, Stephen, and daughter Susan died at very young ages and will undoubtedly serve as guides upon Adele’s arrival at the pearly gates. Adele is survived by 5 children and 7 grandchildren including daughter Nancy Kelly of Jupiter, Florida (and grand-children Patrick and Brenna), daughter Kathy Andio of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida (husband Jim and grand-children Jon, Chris and Michael), son Mike Johnson of Jupiter, Florida (wife Vicki and grand-children Andrew and Amy), son Tom Johnson of New Canaan, Connecticut (spouse Bruce Genaro) and daughter Patricia Johnson of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Adele also leaves behind 4 great grand-children and many nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to count.
Among the lessons Adele instilled in her children were the principles of kindness and acceptance toward others. She espoused her belief that “God made us in different colors, faiths, and orientations and said: go in peace”. All of her friends and family are welcome to attend a celebration of her life on December 12, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm with memorial services to begin at 6:00 pm at the Aycock Funeral Home, 1112 Military Trail in Jupiter, Florida.
The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to Trustbridge Hospice and the doctors and nurses at Palm Beach Gardens Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends charitable donations in Adele’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League (peggyadams.org).
