Mary Knight

Mary Josephine Knight, 90 years of age, lovingly known as Josie to friends and Nana to family, entered this world on August 19, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan and died peacefully in the arms of her dedicated and faithful husband Paul on Sunday, December 26, 2021 in Jonesboro, Georgia.

Born in Detroit, her family returned to England where she spent the remainder of her youth in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. Josie had an adventurous spirit. In her youth she belonged to a cycling club where she met the love of her life Paul Knight. Together they cycled all over the Yorkshire Dale’s. Their proudest achievement was riding 200 miles in one day on Josie’s 20th birthday. They later emigrated to the U.S. with three young children in tow. Josie worked for the airline industry first with Western Airlines and then Delta Airlines which gave her a passion for travel and enabled them to travel the world.

She was an active member of the Funeral Ministry at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Jonesboro. She will be remembered for many reasons including her generosity and sometimes mischievous spirit. But at the top of the list will be her delicious roast beef and Yorkshire puddings, sausage rolls and tarts.

Josie is preceded in death by her parents John Ford and Mary Ford and siblings Arthur and Jack.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Paul, as well as her children David (Tina) Knight, Susan Clark, Theresa (Mike) Thomas, grandchildren Jennifer (John) Weeks, Theresa Clark, Melanie (Jamielle) Gummer, Lisa Knight, Mike, Chris and Paul Thomas and great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Journey and Phenix Clark, Sabri and Javid Weeks, Elleigh and Hardy Thomas, Adilyn and Jaxton Thomas. Josie is also survived by her sister Theresa Brooks, many cousins, nieces and nephews in the States, England and Canada.

A funeral mass will be held for Mary Josephine Knight on Monday, January 24th at 10:30 am EST at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, 591 Flint River Road, Jonesboro GA 30236. Masks will be required for all those in attendance. The family will greet guests and attendees beginning at 9:30 am.
