Joseph Edwin Malcolm Prosper (“Joe”) transitioned peacefully on February 23, 2012, at the age of 63. He passed away in the Atlanta, Georgia metro area, where he was living after many years of failing health. A memorial service will be held on
Friday, June 29th, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of Tara Garden Chapel Funeral Home, located at 681 North Ave.
Jonesboro, GA 30236. Joe was born on August 31, 1948, on the beautiful island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. He was a 1967 graduate of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic High School, where he excelled on the debate team. Joe attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on a four-year journalism scholarship. Joe loved to write and authored one book and many poems. Joe will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his love of family (he was a very special big brother!), reading, pipes (although he stopped smoking more than 25 years ago) and jazz music. His favorite jazz piece was Ceora by Lee Morgan. Joseph is predeceased by his parents, Ada Todman Prosper and M. Malcolm Prosper. He leaves behind five brothers – Neville, Michael, John, Stephen, and Andrew; six sisters – Lauri Prosper-Carty, Lorna Prosper-Harley, Monica Prosper, Cecelia Prosper, Beverly Prosper and Janifer Prosper; special brother-in-law, John Harley; sisters-in-law – Carlene Prosper and Sharon Smith-Prosper; six nieces – Siobhan Carty, Keira Willis, Tai Harley, Renata Prosper, Kanika Prosper and Faith Prosper; four nephews – Eron Prosper, Jamel Nathaniel, Ewan Petersen and Ja’mir Prosper; three great nieces - Jada Magny, Maxine Prosper and Ju’ree Mack; one great nephew, Judah Mack. Joe also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, including a special cousin – Michael D. Williams, M.D. FACS; special caregivers – Rick and Monica Seerepersaud and friends.
