Melvin Dean Piper

A funeral service for Melvin Piper of Johnstown will be held on Friday April 18, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Miller Methodist Church, with Rev.’s Calvin Alexander and Kevin Heckathorn officiating. Burial will be at Green Hill Cemetery.

Melvin was born in Johnstown on October 30, 1930 to the late Albert and Rhoda (Snyder) Piper. He died Saturday April 12, 2014 at the New Albany Gardens Care Ctr. He was 83.

He is preceded in death by his wife Mildred “Mid” Piper and his sister Anna Louise Temple.

Melvin is survived by his children Merle (Debbie) Piper of Alexandria, Kevin (Rhonda) Piper of Johnstown, Ronda Davenport of Homer, Randy Piper of Johnstown, Dale (Monica) Piper of Alexandria; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, brother Larry Piper of Johnstown, and his special neighbors the Inskeeps, Nobilucci’s, Troyers and many other good friends.

Melvin was a member of the Johnstown HS Class of ‘ 48, and had retired from Tech Rubber after 44 years, was a third-generation farmer, collected Allis-Chalmers memorabilia and was a woodworker.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm. An online memorial will be at www.cksammons.com.
