Don died at home in Johnstown on Saturday, November 16 following a long illness. He was a 1963 graduate of Sandy Valley High School in Magnolia, OH, and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1973. Don worked as a senior research scientist at Battelle for over 40 years.
Don had a quiet strength that was comforting. He was a kind, thoughtful man of integrity; a true gentle-man. After he retired, and to keep his active mind engaged, Don took up woodturning, placing items in a local shop. One Christmas season his birdhouse ornaments were a big hit! He loved old-time radio shows, listening to them daily. He decided to collect, and then learn to repair, the old radios that had played the shows he so enjoyed.
Don is survived by his wife Leslie, son Brian (Angel), grandsons Luke McPheters and Dean Myers, and sister-in-law Beth Hall. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Olive, son Donnie, and daughter Beth Myers.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank or Citizens for Humane Action.
