Charles is a graduate of Gahanna Lincoln High School, where he played football. He is a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy Reserves. He lived most of his life in Johnstown and then in Newark. Charles was a hard worker, he retired from Frito Lay after 35 years. He and Marjean owned the movie theater in Johnstown with his sister-in-law Karen and her husband Clair. He then worked for The Food Pantry in Licking County. Charles enjoyed golfing, square dancing, and playing cards. He liked watching his grandsons play football and granddaughter cheer for Johnstown. Charles was also involved with the Cub and Boy Scouts as a Scoutmaster. Charles favorite vacation spot was Pompano and Daytona Beach, Florida. He was an avid Ohio State Fan, and he even served as a Red Coat for many years. Charles was a devout Catholic and sung in his parish’s choir.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Marjean (Lou) Evans; children Patrick (Joe Gilmer) Evans, Jennifer (Ben) Parker; grandchildren Holly Meyer, Brian (Virginia) Cheatwood, Jay (April) Orders, Jordan (Ryan) Combs, and Jared Orders; great-grandchildren Chase, Gatlin, and Elzie; and a host of other friends family and loved ones. He is preceded in passing by his daughter Michelle Cheatwood, father Perry Evans, and mother Matilda (Enenkel) Evans.
A visitation will be held Monday July 6, 2020 from 10:00-11:00 am at Crouse-Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home 225 N. Main St. Johnstown, Ohio 43031. The funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 am with Father Mark of the Church of Ascension officiating. Following services there will be a committal held at Green Hill Cemetery.
