Thomas Wayne Bishop, age 71, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at James H. Quillen VAMC. He was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee, a son of the late Leslie Gale and Reda Blanche Lyons Bishop. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Bishop; and two sisters, Janice Smith and Ann Morris.
Thomas was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam. During his time of service he received the following decorations and citations; NDSM, ARCOM, SPS M-14, 1 OS BAR, SPS M-10, VSM, and VCM. He was of the Baptist faith and was a self-employed mechanic.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan Bishop; his three children, Shea Bishop and wife Peggy, Jimmy Bishop and wife Debbie, and Dawn VanCor and husband Marc; two brothers, Charles Bishop and wife Carolyn, and Buddy Bishop and wife Barbara; 14 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Monte Vista Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Scott Street officiating. Committal Service and Interment will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by Boone Dam VFW Post #4933. Pallbearers will be his three children, and James Markland, James A. Bishop, Billy Bishop, Shea Bishop, and Shawn Mullins.
