A strong man with a big heart. A Veteran of the U.S. Army and the Korean War. He retired from a long career with US Airways. An Avid fan of fishing, football, baseball, car racing and westerns. He was a man’s man, but with a lighthearted personality that made you feel warm and welcomed anytime you were blessed to be in his presence. He cherished his wife Helen (of 57 years, whom he met in Washington D.C. after leaving the Army.) Adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and it showed whenever they visited, as he would light up with an obvious spark and turn into a kid himself. He probably peeled more apples for his grandkids than Mrs. Smith herself.
Known for his quick wit, piercing blue eyes, and kind, compassionate spirit. A man with no concept of shyness, having never met a stranger. One would be hard-pressed to find John without a smile and sharing funny banter. He will be forever loved and greatly missed.
