Sheila Redding Flaherty peacefully passed away on August 19, 2022 at the age of 79. She was the wife of James Flaherty of Stuart, FL. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on June 11, 2022.
Born in Pittston, PA, Sheila was the daughter of the late Regina “Gena” Gibbons and Joseph “Cork” Redding. She graduated from St. John’s High School in 1960, received her undergraduate degree from College Misericordia in 1964, and received her Master’s Degree in library science from Marywood in 1966. After raising her children, she worked at the Joseph Plumb Memorial Library in Rochester, MA, the University of Scranton, and the North Pocono Public Library. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Erin Culkin and her husband, Joseph, of Moscow, PA, Jay Flaherty and his wife, Victoria, of Palm City, FL, a sister-in-law, Joyce Hines, and her husband, Roger, of Hackettstown, NJ, a brother-in-law, John Flaherty, and his wife, Carol, of San Diego, CA, and a brother-in-law, Dan Connell, of New Freedom, PA along with several nieces, nephews and cousins was the loving “Tata” to her grandchildren Catherine Flaherty, Madison Rosengrant and her husband, Evan, Jake and Mackenzie Culkin, Jacob and Hagan Flaherty, and a great-granddaughter, Regina Nash. Sheila looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren especially, celebrating each of their birthdays by being the first to call.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jude Flaherty, her brother, Jerry Redding, and her sister, Ann Connell.
Sheila loved her family more than anything in the world. She enjoyed reading so much that she made it her career. She was a Tiny Tot majorette for twelve years.
Sheila and her husband lived in Clarks Summit, PA, Mattapoisett, MA, and Moscow, PA while they raised their family. After retirement they moved to Oriental, NC, and then to Stuart, FL.
They traveled the world together seeing many of the Wonders of the World and made many friends along the way.
The family would like to thank Kelly Alava and Busai Boonchuay for the wonderful care they gave Sheila over the years.

Family and friends are invited to attend Sheila’s Funeral Mass at 10 AM Monday, August 29th, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1200 E 10th Street, Stuart, FL
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, September 7th, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist, 35 William Street, Pittston, PA
