family on May 10, 2021. He was 74. John was born and raised in Western New York. He
resided in AK, AZ, TN, and CO before retiring to Jensen Beach, FL.
John was a US Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam War before taking a position as a
Civil Engineer with the State of Alaska. He was commissioned in the US Public Health Service
and served for over twenty years attached to the National Park Service Rocky Mountain
Division.
John was a fiercely loyal NY Mets fan, avid woodworker, and winemaker. He volunteered with
Habitat for Humanity and delivered for Meals on Wheels; he was a true servant to all.
John is preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Margaret Collins, brothers David and
Patrick Collins, and sister Kay Pawlowski.
John is survived by his wife Kathryn Skeahan-Collins, sisters Mary Ann Benjamin and Sharon
(Bruce) Hare, sons Brian (Cheryl) Collins and Jason (Annette) Collins, his bonus children
Danielle (Ron) Sollenberger, Marcella (David) Hille and John (Wendy) Chapman, and his nine
grandchildren Eliana, Lincoln, Sierra, Grace, Olivia, Grant, Tristan, Jianna and Sophia.
John will be most remembered for the way he loved and cared for his family, his friends, and his
community. He was a true gentleman.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at Jensen Beach Community Church on Saturday, May
22nd at 11AM.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
