Harriet passed away on November 22, 2023. She was born on January 30, 1949 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to Harry A.T. Fricker and Marie Oster Fricker.
In 1958, the family moved to Miami and later to a new development, Carol City, Florida. Harriet went to Glen Curtiss Elementary School in Miami Springs, Carol City Junior High School and graduated from Carol City High School in 1966.
Harriet met her husband, Ernest Downie in January 1967 and they were married November 25, 1967. They moved to Palm City, Florida, then to Naples, Florida, eventually moving back to Miami. During that time, Harriet was a bookkeeper for Aquasport Marine. The family moved back to Martin County in 1987, settling in Stuart.
Harriet is survived by her husband, Ernest, daughters Tina (Tony) Riley of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Lynn (Jerry Klepadlo) Myers of Palm City, FL. Two grandchildren, Kialynn (Michael) Mathews of Ft. Pierce, FL and Mark (Stephanie Marks) Myers, of Stuart FL. Three great-grandchildren, Riley Mathews, Maddisyn Myers and McKinsley Myers. Two sisters, Rosemary Fricker Dias of Englewood, FL and Marie Fricker (Gary) Smith of Stuart, FL. Sister-in-law Marsha Downie of Port St. Lucie,FL and brother-in-law Richard Woodward (Mary Crews) of Sebring, FL. Harriet is also survived by her nephews, Richard Wheeler of Jackson, TN, Michael Wheeler of Seattle, WA, Jeffery Crews of Sebring, FL and Brad Dias of Louisville, KY. Her nieces, Laura (Drew Taylor) Smith of Stuart, FL, Joann Albritton of Sebring, FL and Elena Dias of Louisville, KY.
Harriet enjoyed fishing, crafting, working on her maternal and paternal ancestry and working in her garden. Harriet loved Elvis Presley as evidenced by her collection of all things Elvis.
We know she’s in Heaven enjoying the Oster family clambake with all her family that have gone on before her. They are all exclaiming how lucky they are to have Harriet’s Special Coleslaw with their clam cakes.
There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
