He was born February 23, 1920 in Fairbanks, Fayette County, a son of the late Disidoro and Ida Mae Arnfield Virgili.
Mr. Virgili was coal miner and mechanic at the former Gateway Coal Company, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of St. Marcellus RC Church, Jefferson, where he had served as a member of the church council for 35 years. He had also served as a Democratic Committeeman in Morgan Township for 45 years, a member of the Jefferson Senior Citizens Center, where he was a volunteer and served as vice-president of the center’s council; he also served on the board of directors of Eldercare.
On May 19, 1942 he married Anna Janus, who survives.
Also surviving are three children, Shirley Vowcheck and her husband Cedric of Washington, Vito Virgili “Sonny” and his wife Sue of Carmichaels and Ronald Virgili and his wife Mary of Waynesburg; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Virgili of Jefferson, Gene Virgili of Mentor OH, and John “Toby” Virgili of Clarksville.
Deceased are five brothers, Orlando “Chick” Virgili, Franklin “Froggy” Virgili, Ernest Virgili, George Virgili and Isadore “Peppy” Virgili; and two sisters, Rose Kensek and Ida Mae Lacinak.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where a Blessing Service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 21, 2012, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Marcellus R.C. Church, Jefferson with Fr.
