He was born February 25, 1949 in Clarksville, a son of the late Samuel Francis and Joan Smith Benyi.
Sam was a 1967 graduate of Bethlehem Center High School and was a retired coal miner from Clyde Mine in Fredericktown.
He attended Clarksville Christian Church, and was Mayor of Clarksville for ten years.
Sam was a lifetime member of Clarksville Volunteer Company where he served as chief, assistant chief, and Chaplin.
Sam was also was a member of the Izaak Walton League. Sam was an avid fisherman, hunter, enjoyed camping and the outdoors.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Baer Benyi, whom he married December 22, 1973.
Also surviving are three sons. Sammy Benyi Jr. of North Huntingdon, Michael (Linda) Benyi of South Park, and Danny Benyi of Clarksville; two grandchildren, Jacelyn Benyi and Korah Benyi; and one great-grandson, Jaxson; three sister-in-laws, Jean Collins of Clarksville, Joan Baer of Clarksville, and Sharon Wallach of Rices Landing.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Behm Funeral Homes, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where services will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Clarksville Volunteer Fire Company or Clarksville Festival Fund, at the Clarksville Boro.
