Jane was born in Brave, to the late Joseph Earl and Mary Marie (Burnfield) Byard, on May 1, 1932. She spent most of her life growing up in Ruff Creek. She was a graduate of Waynesburg High School class of 1951, where she was a member of the basketball team and was voted the most athletic girl in her class.
She married William D. “Bill” DeBolt on December 14, 1952 and had 5 children. Over the years the family lived in Pa, WV, Florida, Massachusetts and Ohio. While in Massachusetts and Ohio she worked with her husband managing apartment buildings and hotels.
Jane was an active member of the Spraggs United Methodist Church and the Mather Christian Church. She enjoyed painting and drawing and many friends and family members have her art work in their homes. With her husband Bill, she played dartball on the Spraggs Church League team and also was in a bowling league in Waynesburg.
She did historical reporting and ancestry research for her family. She also wrote biographies about local friends who’s stories she thought would be interesting to tell. She was a 4-H leader. She had a unique sarcastic sense of humor and kept things lively wherever she went. She was generous and kind and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
She is preceded in death by her husband William D. “Bill” DeBolt, and her parents Mary Marie Burnfield and Earl Byard, and her brother, Jim Byard, and a daughter-in-law Kathleen Early DeBolt.
Her surviving relatives are her children: Dan (Cindy Early) DeBolt of McMurray, PA, Jan (Larry) Dulaney of Spraggs PA, Stan DeBolt of Waynesburg, PA, Van (Debra) DeBolt of Morgantown WV, Shannon (Jeff) DeBolt Knapp of Butler, PA, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also surviving are three siblings, Sue (Raymond) Brewer of Cleveland OH, John (Sue) Byard, of Cleveland OH, and Ruth Ann (Don) Mihalec of Washington D.C. and a sister-in-law Gay Byard of Cleveland OH.
The family has provided as an option in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to: Alzheimer’s Association 1100 Liberty Ave STE E-201 Pittsburgh PA 15222-4240. The Association requests that checks be made payable to Alzheimer’s Association and to acknowledge that the donation is being made in memory Jane DeBolt.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2016, and on Thursday from 10 to 11:00 a.m., the hour of services on December 29, 2016, in the Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Rd., Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P.
