He was born August 17, 1931 in LaBelle, a son of the late George and Sadie McNett Swaney.
Mr. Swaney served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was a retired coal miner from the former Clyde Mine in Fredericktown.
Mr. Swaney was a member of St. Thomas RC Church of Clarksville; the United Mine Workers of America, the American Legion Post #391, Hanson-Cole Post of Fredericktown.
On December 29, 1951 in the St. Thomas RC Church, Clarksville he married Mary Daviero, who survives.
Also surviving are the children, James Swaney of Indian Lake, Michael Swaney and his wife Ellen of Bethel Park, Natalie Klimas and her husband Dean of Upper St. Clair; three grandchildren, Alyssa Klimas, Deanna Klimas and Luke Michael Swaney; a sister, Dorothy Sadlek of Clarksville.
Deceased are three sisters, Betty Burke, Ida Mae Unlcine, and Henreyette Gregory; two brother, George Swaney and Jimmy Swaney, who died in childhood.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where a Blessing Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 24, 2016, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Thomas R.C. Church, Clarksville with Fr. J. Francis Frazer as celebrant. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #391, Fredericktown and the U.S. Army.
