Alva was born May 10, 1938, in Vestaburg, son of Alva William Dorsey, Sr., and Martha Jane Carter Dorsey.
He was a 1956 graduate of East Bethlehem High School, served his country in Korea in the. U.S. Army Military Police, and went on to earn his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from California University of Pennsylvania.
Alva is survived by his wife of 56 years and the love of his life, Kenwyn Kornick Dorsey; two beloved children, Dr. Mary Jo Dorsey of Pittsburgh and Alva William Dorsey, III and his wife Shara of Dry Tavern; granddaughter Samantha Dorsey and her son Maxxen William; step grandchildren, 1st Lieutenant Joshua Wolfe and his wife Rachel, Michael, Jenna, and her son Ethan, and Katelyn Wolfe; one brother, Thomas of Medina, OH, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Alva is preceded in death by three sisters, Lorayne Rankin (Barry), Donna Mancini (David), and Delores Devecka (Edward).
Mr. Dorsey was a beloved teacher of 30 years and girls’ basketball coach at Carmichaels Area School District. He was a member of the PSEA, NEA, and American Legion Post 400 in Carmichaels.
Friends will be received 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm Thursday , with memory sharing at 7:00pm at Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, Supervisor. Brief prayers will be said at 10:45 a.m., Friday, September 7, 2018 at the funeral home, followed by interment and military honors at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at 12:30 pm.
