Sonya Faye Violett Webb, born on March 22, 1959, in Russellville, Kentucky, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on April 8, 2024, in her home. Sonya’s life journey began in Logan County, Kentucky, where she was born. She was raised on her grandparents’ farm in Dot, Kentucky, just outside Russellville. There, she and her older sister, Cynthia Renee Violett, were raised by their mother, Peggy Burchett Violett. Cindy is married to James William Owen, Jr. of Cross Plains, TN. Sonya graduated from Russellville High School in 1977 and earned a degree in Business Administration from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, in three years. Sonya is preceded in death by grandparents Wallace Boyd and Margaret Lallie Burchett, Winferd Leondias and Josephine Brady Violett, and her father, Joseph Marion Violett.
During those school years, Sonya discovered her true passion for theatre and the arts, participating in chorus, swing choir, speech, and drama. She excelled in musical theatre performances such as Goldfinger and Pirates of the Caribbean. Her love for the arts continued throughout her life, and she remained active in various theatrical productions and events, leaving a lasting impact on the Walker County Arts Alliance and the Foothills Festival, not to mention the countless students and families she coached and mentored.
Sonya’s dedication to her work was a testament to her character. She held positions as an Accounting Manager for Bath and Body Works, Gary Walters Accounting, and Allen and Pilling CPAs, always striving for excellence. But her commitment to her profession was matched, if not surpassed, by her deep love for her family. Sonya’s legacy lives on through her daughters, Mary Margaret Brewer Sanders, her husband Keith, and Anne E. Brewer, as well as her granddaughter, Lallie Elizabeth Brewer. Mary Margaret, a Doctor of Pharmacy, and Anne E., a devoted mother, carry Sonya’s values of strength, resilience, and compassion forward, a testament to the profound love and care Sonya instilled in them.
In 2004, Sonya embarked on a new chapter of her life, marrying Scotty Webb of Jasper, Alabama. Together, they embraced life's joys, traveled, and built a strong network of friends. They also faced significant challenges, which Sonya met with unwavering courage. Numerous medical battles marked her journey, each a testament to her remarkable resilience. She demonstrated a truly inspiring strength, supported by her loving family, including JoLee Violett Collins, her husband Kris, and a dedicated team of physicians. Her spirit, kindness, and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Sonya’s memory will be cherished by her family, friends, and the community she served. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations to the Walker Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 171, Jasper, AL 35502, to honor Sonya’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and community activity.
