Linda was born in Dora. She graduated Dora High School and married Charles F. Upton in 1963. They had three children and moved to Jasper in 1972 where she quickly embraced her new community. An expert seamstress, Linda was known throughout the county for exquisite creations. Whether it was an elegant pageant dresses and gowns, smocked children’s clothes or cheerleader and majorette uniforms for Walker High School, she poured her love and care into every stitch. Linda, affectionately known as Nana, loved being an active part of her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives. She was an active member of New Prospect Baptist Church and dearly loved her church family. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great friend.
Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, from 12 until 1 p.m., at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Service will follow at 1 p.m., in the Kilgore-Green Chapel, burial at Walker Memory Gardens. Bro. Howard Thompson will officiate.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Emily Upton; parents, Sally Belle and Jack Lee Hodges; siblings, John Hodges, Barbara Campbell, Sammy Hodges, Mary-Louise Capps; grandparents, Samuel and Bertha Scissom; and in-laws, Alvie L. and Mexie B. Upton.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Charles F. Upton; children, Theresa Bachstein (James); C. Christopher Upton (Lee), Scott F. Upton (Michele); grandchildren, Matthew J. Bachstein (Frances), Kayla M. Collins (Brent), Anna Caroline Bachstein, Noah S. Upton; great grandchildren, Anna Leigh Collins, and Cohen Collins; siblings, Jacqueline Blevins (Joe), Jimmy Hodges (Iris), Ricky Hodges (Michelle) and Thomas Hodges and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Jonathon Garrett, RN., with Comfort Care Hospice for his excellent care and compassion.
Honorary pallbearers will be Noah Upton, Matthew Bachstein, Brent Collins.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Johnson, Pat Morrison, Oliver Dodson, James Underwood, Harry Markum and Carl Goforth.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to New Prospect Baptist Church of Jasper.
