Joe S. Deavours, 82, of Jasper, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, after a short illness. He was a well known local businessman, philanthropist, church organist, world traveler, piano and organ teacher, and a public school teacher. He also served in the U.S. Army Intelligence. He had a Bacholor of Science degree from the University of Alabama. Deavours was preceded in death by his parents, Clay and Floy Deavours; brother, George C. Deavours; and sister-in-law, June O’Rear Deavours. He is survived by his niece, Denise Deavours Howland. He was a beloved uncle and friend to many.
