It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jane Wiederecht on August 26, 2023. Born to James and Jacqueline Pierce on June 8, 1948, Jane's vibrant spirit and fierce determination touched many lives.
From a young age, Jane was a force to be reckoned with. She graduated from Oakman High School and pursued her education further at The University of Alabama. Always thirsting for knowledge, she went on to earn her master’s degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her passion for learning was matched only by her devotion to sharing it with others. As a beloved educator in the Walker County School System, she left an indelible mark on countless lives before her retirement.
In 1969, having met in college, she married the love of her life, John Wiederecht. Later they were blessed with a son, Pierce. She also had the fortune of becoming a doting aunt and great-aunt, experiences she cherished deeply.
Aside from her professional career, Jane was an active member of her community, regularly attending meetings at the Heartland Quilt Guild and the Jasper Quilt Guild. Her favorite pastimes included quilting, painting, and reading, especially mystery novels, music, British TV mystery shows, and cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide brought her immense enjoyment and passion.
Jane's travel adventures took her from the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee to the scenic coastlines of the US, and the grand wonders of England and Europe. She brought beauty into her life through her appreciation of American folk crafts, and her love for The Beatles, Willie Nelson, and Jimmy Buffett's music revealed her eclectic tastes.
Jane's influence in many of her students’ lives is her true legacy. She never forgot a student’s face years after they left her classroom and greeted them warmly with loving hugs. Her dedication to teaching young children to read has enriched their lives and enabled them to provide for their own families, which will have a positive impact on generations to come. Her enthusiastic spirit, fierce yet loving personality, and unyielding belief in the power of education and God will forever inspire those who knew her.
Jane Wiederecht will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those she touched throughout her remarkable life.
She is survived by her husband, John Wiedericht; son, Pierce Wiedericht; sisters, Lynn Watts and Isobel McCart and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her parents, James and Jacqueline Pierce and infant sister, Susan.
Family will be receiving friends on Friday, September 1, 2023, from 5 until 7 p.m., at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Day Cemetery with Kilgore-Green Funeral Home directing. Keith Lewis will officiate.
