A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, at Walker Memory Gardens at 2 p.m., with Kilgore-Green Funeral Home directing.
Jack was born on July 4, 1929, in Kansas, Alabama. He attended Kansas Elementary School and Carbon Hill High School. He left school in the 11th grade to enlist in the U.S. Army where he served in California and England. He operated heavy machinery and helped construct airstrips.
After the military service, he returned home and married the love of his life, Evelon Wheeler. He was employed by Hayes Aircraft in Birmingham and DuPont Chemical in New Jersey, where he retired in 1984 to return to his home in Kansas. Jack was a member of the Kansas Methodist Church. He and Evelon enjoyed a life of farming and sharing the harvest with friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelon Wheeler Thornberry; parents, Lon and Minnie Thornberry; and siblings, Lloyd Hicks, Pete Hicks, Raymond Thornberry, Kathleen Garris, and Carol Bozeman.
He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Faye Wheeler Kendrick and Barbara Wheeler; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
