Henry Neil Myers, 81, of Carbon Hill, passed away Friday, August 20, 2021, at his residence. There will be a private family service. Burial will be at Day Cemetery in Oakman, AL. Kaleb Hall and Kaleb Skinner will officiate.
Neil was born and raised in Oakman, AL. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Sartain Myers in 1957, and had two boys, Mike and Greg. During their almost 64 years of marriage, they traveled to all 50 states. After serving in the National Guard for 10 years, Neil started preaching in 1967 in Townley while working in the coal mines. He graduated MSOP in 1969 and continued to preach for the next 53 years at Reform, Eldridge, and West Walker, as well as held gospel meetings in 15 different states. He taught classes at the Gus Nichols School of Biblical Studies for more than 10 years. He also devoted 13 years of his life to preaching live on the radio. When he wasn’t preaching he would be in the woods with his coon dogs or in the pasture with his cattle. If you stopped for even just a minute, he would tell you about his grands and great grandchildren. He loved to load them up and check cows, or count lightening bugs. He also loved having his grandkids on his lap while singing his favorite hymns. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and gospel preacher. His lungs are full and he’s singing loud.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emuel Myers and Lois Myers Odom; siblings, Bobby Myers, Jeanette Jackson, and Billie Jackson Jones; one great granddaughter; and several in-laws.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Sartain Myers; children, Michael Myers (Dena) of Tallapoosa, GA., Gregory Myers (Shirley) of Carbon Hill, AL.; grandchildren, Joshua Myers (Anna), Karah Skinner (Kaleb), Melissa Gates (Michael), Krystal McCollum (Matthew), and Kristin Hall (Kaleb); 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of West Walker Church of Christ and many other friends.
Pallbearers will be Josh Myers, Matt McCollum, Michael Gates, Kaleb Skinner, Kaleb Hall, and Bryan Richardson.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Memphis School of Preaching or Childhaven.
A special thanks to Diana Hill and Southern Care New Beacon.
